IPHYGENIA DUBOIS

Iphygenia Dubois (°1991) is an artist currently based in Antwerp and Ghent, Belgium. Over the past few years she studied at the School Of Arts Ghent, where she developed her own approach within documentary photography. For her first work she photographed the idiosyncrasies of the Flemish pastimes, the results of which she has bundled up in a book called “Really Not Real”. After this, Dubois took on a more personal approach making a series called “I Forgot I Was Here”. For this photo-essay, she visited the place where she grew up. Her parents were the proprietors of this hotel but after leaving the hotel, her parents got divorced. She went back to what once was a familiar place, only to discover it had barely changed. For her new series she uses the same approach, her photographs show subtle traces of the past – late-documentary, where she structures her images with lines and corners. By throwing herself into these places related to her and her past, photography becomes a way of art to research the person she is at this moment in time.
