Welcome to “The Maple Highway,” a travel journal from the road as I drive across Canada from Victoria, British Columbia to St. John’s Newfoundland. As a Canadian I’ve always been attracted to adventure, travel and maple syrup products. However like many Canadians have barely toured much of my own country. This project (made possible thanks to a Canada Council for the Arts Grant) is a return to my roots as I seek to learn more about my country. I’ve got the theme to the Littlest Hobo set as my ring-tone and in the words of the great Gordon Lightfoot: Carefree Highway, let me slip away, slip away on you. Psssst! I’m open to your suggestions as where and what to visit. If you have any good ideas or would like to invite me for supper please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ll be traveling a straight shoot from the west coast to the east so hopefully I’ll be passing through your neck of the woods at some point along the way. Please email me what Canada means to you and your reasons for loving Canada at mapledipped@gmail.com ABOUT ME: Toronto born, I moved to New York in 1997 to study documentary photography at the International Center of Photography. While I work for various international magazines, it’s what I shoot in my down time that inspires me. My first monograph, “America Swings,” was published by TASCHEN and recently Editions Intervalles published my second book, “California Dreaming.” I currently live in Brooklyn and when I can find the time to pretend to relax I enjoy singing karaoke and cuddling with my cats Meredith Baxter Birney and Mittens.
