Current submissions are being reviewed for GROWING UP & GROWING OLDER, ISSUE #18 (October 1 submission deadline): Published December 2015. Issue #18 will be guest edited by author Rick Bass. In this special issue we'll explore growing up and growing older in relation to both the individual, family, and society. The theme will be broadly interpreted to explore dreams and aspirations, faults and successes, imperfections and beauty. We'll explore the pressure at certain points in our lives, the scars that remain and the healing that comes through time. Who are you at your core as you age and change? In the process of stripping away as we age, how do we face mortality with grace? What teachers or mentors have helped you along the road? How has your own teaching helped you grow? How do the mountains and big open spaces nurture our growth and help keep us alive? SUBMISSIONS:      → ART: Up to 5 pieces of art (all genres)      → PHOTOGRAPHY: Up to 5 color photos AND/OR 5 black and white photos      → FICTION: 1 piece (under 5000 words)      → NON-FICTION: 1 piece (under 5000 words)      → POETRY: 3 poems (in one document) We are particularly interested in young writers (high school and below). We now charge a $3 service fee for submissions, but young writers are free. Whitefish Review prides itself on being accessible to the entire community of writers, artists and readers that we serve. Though our nonprofit organization has implemented a $3 submission fee to help offset, in part, some of the expenses incurred in producing a literary and arts journal, we still aspire to be as inclusive as possible. If the $3 administrative fee prohibits you from submitting your work, please email editor@whitefishreview.org with a brief explanation of your circumstance and we'll see what we can do to work together. COVER LETTER: Cover letter can be optional and just tell us what's on your mind. BIO Submit a brief bio consisting of a 2-3 sentence description of past published work, be written in the 3rd person, and begin with the author's/artist's name. If you are selected for publication we will use this in our contributor section. This helps us later, but we only judge you on the merit of your work. We like discovering previously unpublished writers.      EXAMPLE:       AUTHOR's works have appeared in these publications (or has not published before—which is great).          He/she does this or likes that and lives in TOWN, STATE.      → Include mailing address and phone number in your cover letter. You can help us grow by ordering a back issue or a subscription. Plus, you'll get a better sense for our aesthetic style and what we may be looking for.
