WHAT DO WE PUBLISH?
We publish quality poetry, short stories, other literature and artwork
that connect in some way with modern technology. We prefer work that
is edgy, offers new perspectives, challenges traditional genres and
modes of expression and moves or excites us.
SUBMISSIONS
LITERATURE
Carbon Culture Review welcomes unsolicited submissions of previously
unpublished fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, translations,
photography and visual art.
We also publish book reviews, art reviews, and articles on new
technologies important to our global community (sustainable designs,
innovations that solve global issues, and emerging concepts in the
information world.) Our vision is to promote the intersection of
established and emerging talents in the art, literary, and technology
scenes.
GENERAL GUIDELINES: Please include a cover letter on the first page of
your submission. Include your name, mailing address, and email address
at the top followed by a brief one paragraph bio. All items should be
included in one document. Simultaneous works are permitted, but please
withdrawal work that is accepted elsewhere as soon as possible through
Submittable. For partial withdraws, send an email to
editorial@carbonculturereview.com.
Please, send one submission per category at a time and wait to hear
back about your submission before submitting anything else.
Carbon Culture Review is granted first-publication rights for work
selected for the print publication and first electronic rights for
work selected for our online digital issue. All rights revert to the
author.
ARTICLES, REVIEWS AND INTERVIEWS
CCR publishes book reviews, art show reviews, interviews, and articles
or essays on new technologies and literary work important to our
global community (sustainable designs, innovations that solve global
issues, emerging concepts in the information world and other
interesting tech and literary intersections.)
All other non-submission letters, comments, and queries not covered in
the guidelines should be sent to editorial@carbonculturereview.com.
NOTE
We charge a $3 service fee for some submissions to help cover the
cost of using Submittable's software. All paying submitters will
receive a free digital issue. This fee is about the same that it
would cost for postage, gas and envelopes to send your
submission by mail. We do read free of charge two times a year in
January and July so that everyone has a chance to submit.
We strive to respond to all submissions quickly--between 4-6 weeks
and often sooner. However, response times can vary, especially during
our fee-free months.
All submissions are considered for our annual newsstand print edition
and online editions.
PAYMENT
We pay contributors to Carbon Culture’s collective cultural record
two copies of the issue in which their work appears. We also consider
work published in CCR for nomination for various prizes, such as the
Pushcart Prize, Best New Poets, PEN/O'Henry Prize, Best American Short
Stories, Best American Essays, Best American Non-required Reading,
Best American Poetry, and Verse Daily is also given.
