From Kashmir to Kanyakumari

India, religion, college life, and avoiding Eat Pray Love syndrome. This blog mostly concerns religious studies in general, with a strong emphasis on the religion of South Asia, particularly Hinduism. I’ll also post things about Indian culture(s) and histor(ies) in general, while trying hard not to fall into the Western trope of mehndi/Bollywood/bindis as representative images of India. My primary area of research is on early female bhaktas and female spirituality in the bhakti movement. I’m also interested in representations of religion in Indian popular media. I’m 20 years old, American, and of a mixed Jewish/Protestant background. Double major in history and religious studies, with a focus on South Asia. My other interests include religious art, navel-gazing, music, and eating–not necessarily in that order. I have always tried to be respectful and to promote the voices of South Asian/Desi people in this blog…I will of course make some mistakes, so I freely invite you, if you want, to let me know if I do or say something that is appropriative or just flat-out offensive. I’ll never fully understand everything but I do my best to be respectful, and I take criticism well. :)
