This is a great article. I was wondering if anyone had some information about raising these chickens not for slaughter but to actually breed them?

This is a great introductory tutorial! We too prefer raising cornish crosses. They are a bit fragile, especially in the beginning, but their fast growth rate makes them much more economical. :)

Great tips and info! I'm not much into raising birds for meat because I can get them so cheaply from the farmers in my area but it's good to know how to do it in case we change our minds :)

I had no idea what raising chickens for meat was all about. I was surprised to read how they're classified by weight and are butchered so young. Very interesting read. Thanks.

I remember my parents raising chicken when we were younger. Don't think I can do it myself though. The eggs were awesome!

We raise our own meat and also layer chickens. I won't buy the standard meat chickens though. We get the production red which is an older variety that take longer to raise up, but without the hea...

So nice that you can raise and eat your own food! I'd love to do that here, but we are in the city with no room :( They are so cute thought :)

Thank you for this post. I had only read about chickens kept for eggs. I enjoyed reading about ones intended for meat.

If I had the land I'd love to raise my own food. It's how my granny did it when I was little.
