Designing OERu Credentials: Aug 29-Sept 13, 2011

Designing OERu Credentials: Aug 29 - Sept 13, 2011Facilitators: Paul Stacey and Wayne MackintoshAs a follow on to the February, 2011 Open Educational Resource University discussion, this 2-week Designing OERu Credentials seminar explores the design of credentials using OER as a new model of post secondary education. For those looking to quickly get up to speed on development of the OERu concept so far the information sheet: 5 Things you should know about the OER university network plan provides a succinct summary. International recruitment for the OER Tertiary Education Network is progressing well. In theory it will be possible to accredit OER learning for university credentials in Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and the USA through OERu's current anchor partners: Athabasca University (Canada) Thompson Rivers University (Canada) Empire State College (State University of New York) University of Southern Queensland (Australia) Unisa (University of South Africa) Otago Polytechnic (New Zealand) Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (New Zealand) We're now ready to convert theory into practice. This Designing OERu Credentials seminar invites you all to participate in defining the variety of academic models by which an institution, or consortia of institutions, can use OER to create credentials. The outputs of this seminar will be considered by the OERu anchor partners at the planning implementation meeting scheduled for 9 & 10 November 2011.What are the possibilities? Design degrees: offered by your institution made up of OER from elsewhere mixed with your own OER; offered by your institution made up of OER entirely from elsewhere but delivered by you; that are consortia based with multiple institutions providing OER courses with transfer credit agreements that lead to degrees; that are made up of OER from elsewhere but involve support and assessment services from your institution etc... waiting for your ideas! This Designing OERu Credentials seminar is off to a rip roaring start. Thank you everyone for the great discussion and suggestions. To build on that momentum we're going to have a live webcast Wednesday September 7th, 2011 at 2 pm PST (see your time zone) featuring Wayne Mackintosh and your host Paul Stacey. Hope you all can join us!Web Conference: Wednesday, September 7, 2011 | recording | slides
