I believe this is the Cascades, but I've only ever seen them in kayaking videos, so at much higher water.
I love hiking! one of my favourite things to do, throw in a tent and a couple days and I'm in heaven!
Smithton in the house! Seriously, Ohiopyle is really beautiful. If you can get there in June for the annual Beer and Gear Fest, make the trip. Some really fantastic regional breweries and lots of...
Then I bet this picture doesn't even do it justice compared to what you saw ;-)
I believe so. Read up on Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail
You can explore such places if you don't love to fish too. Eg: Photography
I live not too far from there. The whitewater rafting is superb as well.
Ohiiapile.. as Pittsburgh people say.
hell yeah man I kayak the lower yaugh all the time
Been there many times as a kid. A beautiful spot.
Pennsylvania is prob one of the best places to go fishing. But then again maybe I'm just being nostalgic while stuck over here on the west coast.
This is the same reason I like to geocache
Nice spot. I am going to look this park up. They offer overnight back packing?
The whitewater kayaking there is pretty swell too!
I tripped on acid once at this exact location.
Fishing without drinking is like... Hunting. Without.. Drinking...
I got there every summer and white water raft, definitely an amazing place!
Upvote for awesome pic, but also for username.
This place looks gorgeous--as someone who lives on the eastern side of PA this makes me want to make a trek out west. Thank you for sharing!
I love Ohiopyle.
Ha, back when I went to PSU Fayette, I'd go down there for lunch kind of as a novelty. I never could actually finish one of those nasty burgers, was more of a corn dog man lol
Love the name! I bet you're cheap though lmao.
Huh, I usually wait about 5 minutes.
One more Connellsville up in this piece.

IMO if you're just sitting and standing, you're not fishing. Try chasing a more active fish such as bass, walleye, trout, muskie, or other predatory fish. The fishing techniques for these species...
Yes! Ohiopyle love on the front page! I whitewater guide here! Your pic is at the Cascades! Here is a great pic of my dog at this spot How was the fishing this weekend? Any lunkers?
I absolutely love Ohiopyle. One of the prettiest places I've been. Used to live not too far from it, and I miss going! Thanks for the nostalgia trip
I only live an hour from that place! I know where I am camping this summer!
As a PA resident who enjoys to fish, I need to go there.
Droid Turbo. I'm not going to lie, I did some slight editing, but the phone still takes some awesome pictures.
Oh man, I'm from PA and definitely am going to check out this park! Looks wonderful!
Well I live in PA and never heard of this place....ROAD TRIP
You don't see many PA places on this subreddit
He got lucky. I went after heavy rains and just as they got there some guy was getting pulled out of the water with a huge gash on his arm
Reminds me of here .
I'm impatient as fuck. The trick is to learn how long to try a spot and then move/leave. For bass and other fish that strike, I usually wait around 30 min. If nothing, I move.
And I'm from Vanderbilt. Hello neighbors.
I live about 20 minutes from Ohiopyle. It's my favorite place on the planet.
I was a camp counselor and back in the day we went here for team bonding. I got in first and was fine, but everyone else came out bleeding. Good times.
Spot burner.
I almost died white water rafting there once. Ahh, the memories.
I live literally 20 minute from Ohiopyle Op. If I wasn't so busy today I'd show you some local secret spots.
I went down the rock slides once. ONCE. Got so effed up
I thought Ohiopyle sounded familiar. That's where I knew it from. Also, Fort Necessity isn't far either.
It's honestly the best way to describe things around here if you are talking about places near the hills where the time it takes* to get to those locations depends more on the road quality than h...
I'm proud to have "yinz" as a part of my vocabulary.
I was just there yesterday!! Go Western PA!
Hiking is good for that too.
"Yinz guys going dahn to Ohiyapiyal this Sunday? Nah, I got Stillers tickets." That accent is great.
I don't like fishing, but looks like I need a hobby to go places like these.
Dude, I was up there Saturday too!
Robin of the hood?
Nice shot! I love rivers/waterfalls. It's ironic this photo was posted about Ohiopyle, PA, since recently a young man went over the railing and ended up drowning. So sad :( Hope you caught...
Should drive my 4x4 up that
This is actually a different waterfall at Ohiopyle, but thanks for sharing. Didn't hear about that.
Proposed to my now-wife at this location about 2 years ago. Very cool to see it on the front page.
Can I ask what phone that photo looks insane for a phone.
My dirty mind read: I love to fist... Might be because of Earthporn.
I love ohiopyle. I'm from the area so as a kid we would always go there. My best friend used to always go fishing there and would send me pictures. He was always a better fisherman than me. He pa...
I live fifteen miles from Ohiopyle. My family and I go there in the warm months. Very beautiful place, thanks for posting!
Love me some Ohiopyle!
I grew up in Chalk Hill, Deer Lake to be exact. Great place to grow up, I sometimes wish I still lived there.
I did this exact thing. Heavy rains made the water slides look like a death trap. I was the only one of the five guys I was with to go down them anyway. It was the scariest thing I have ever done...
This photo is similar than scenes in salmon documents . Only need couple grizzly bears in row on the edge of that rapid.
God I love the laurel highlands
PA Rivendell represent!
what phone do you have?
Or take the whiskey for the cold winter morning!
Great shot!!!! Fishing and walking through nature to get to it is the best!!! Are you fly fishing or lure fishing? I love doing the same. If anyone knows any good fishing reddit sub's like this p...
I wish I would have done some fishing when I was there! I was mostly rafting on the Lower Yough and biking when I went.
I went whitewater rafting on the Youghigeny at Ohiopyle twice in college. My freshman year I loved it, my sophomore year I fell out of the boat twice, skinned my knee and never went again.
How UT are you?
I love fly fishing meadow run. Caught a bunch of nice holdovers above the 2nd set of falls. http://imgur.com/gallery/z3bCklh
there was an old man from Nottingham who tried to cross the river...
I wonder if there is a Pennsylvaniapyle State Park in Ohio?
I grew up just north of here in the woods. This is my home. It's freaking me out to see it on the front page of reddit. I live in Pittsburgh now and miss it like crazy.
I've gone white water rafting here, love Ohiopyle!
Cause the Ohio River is massive! Fun fact, if standard river naming conventions were used the majority of the Mississipi River would actually be part of the Ohio.
As a steelhead biologist in Southern California, I hope the best for you and your fish there. Meanwhile, my job is to find fish that are stranded in isolated puddles, and move them to more hospit...
First time my unsername has ever been relevant.
Im from C'ville. Hey neighbor!
I used to work at Ohiopyle in the summer while I was in college. Its one of my favorite places ever.
You dont really need to fish to go there. (Not that I see anyhing wrong with fishing. Just pointing that out)
Whenever I see Ohiopyle I always pronounce it like the people from my little Western Pennsylvanian town "ohiyapiyal"
“In our family, there was no clear line between religion and fly fishing. We lived at the junction of great trout rivers in western Montana, and our father was a Presbyterian minister and a fly...
What if I told you that you could go to this place and not fish?
Pennsylvania really is beautiful, some other great places to visit are Cooks Forest and Linn Run state parks. My childhood was filled with family hikes/camping at all three.
Slides, rafting, hiking and fishing all in one place with affordable camping (or easily reserved trail camps) and an awesome little town. Ahh.. childhood memories.
I thought this was why people fished.
I love the natural rock slide at Ohiopyle. Western PA represent!
Man I love Ohiopyle so much, nice to see something from home on here. Love going at all different times of the year just to watch how it changes too, it's beautiful after a good snow.
Well the past two times I have been to Fayette haven't been the greatest. The first I had a dart thrown at my face in a bar for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The second was to get my buddies s...
One of my favorite areas. Ohiopyle is always a blast to visit. Awesome bike trails.
Ahh I love ohiopyle. I live just south of Pittsburgh and love taking a drive out there in the summer/fall. The roads in and around Ohiopyle are nice and twisty and perfect for a nice, spirited dr...
I used to see stuff like this all the time when I lived in the middle of nowhere, Northern Ontario. I miss that, and that alone.
Dude!!! I'm so happy to see Ohiopyle on the front page!!! I live literally 30 minutes from there.. Most peaceful place to fish.. :-)
Haha, I've had the same thought lately...
I proposed to my wife at Ohiopyle :) http://imgur.com/0k6EFqQ,aUDBGzZ,bIpTRWT,tQpoBv1,FIyeVAE
That looks fantastic, much better then the junk here in Portland OR.
The fly fisherman in me is just itching to drift a nymph through the slow pool between the slicks!
were you fishing opening day of trout season? i got a nice 24in pike
Be sure to make a trip to Beams Rock if you're in Southwestern PA... What a view!
I lived in Fayette county for over 25 years of my life, but moved away several years ago. To the OP, I thank you for sharing this for a bit of nostalgia. Ohiopyle is a great park.
Don't forget the lesser known Kentuck Knob, also designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
I live about an hour from Ohiopyle and ride my motorcycle there at least once a summer. Beautiful park, nestled in a beautiful nook of the mountains.
I'm about to graduate from college. Find me a job there and we have a deal!
I've gone white water rafting in the Youghiogheny. Hell of a good time.
This was one of the last places I went to with my older brother before he passed away. I have great memories of this place. Thanks for sharing!
Sorry I'm geographically challenged. Happy?
I went there for vacation this summer! The whole place is beautiful. And I'm not sure, but I think I know exactly where this picture was! I sat on the rocks and read a book for a while.
This is strange, I go hiking around Hell's hollow in the summers.
Amazing place!
Looks like where they filmed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. The part where Robin Hood and Little Jon battle it out with staffs.
pgh is west, not east
Ah man I love the rock slide. It's a little terrifying and but awesome at the same time. I bruise easily and my full body turns shades of black, blue, and green, but it's so worth it.
WHY IS OHIOPYLE NOT IN OHIO!!?
You a fellow Pennsylvanian too?
Move immediately! Southwestern PA (and Pittsburgh specifically) is the place to be!
That's a part of the joy of kayaking though: complete loss of control to something (while mild and beautiful) that can completely ruin you. It shows you the true beauty that is nature's power.
I was there one, maybe two years ago. Second time going with my family. I don't recognize this spot, but when I was there, there had been heavy rain throughout the week. The water was really high...
PA best place on earth who's with me
Have you tried fly fishing? It's a much more active form of fishing, you have different techniques based on the weather, fly you are using, fish you want to catch. It's crazy addicting and much b...
Sure, it's called hiking. As an added bonus, you can pick places exclusively for how pretty they are, as opposed to their suitability for fishing.
This is great, i was just telling my girlfriend about this. haven't gone there in a long time, but i remember it being great. We just went to Hells Hollow yesterday
Just found his body a few days ago
I only go so I can can sit around and drink.
About an hour south of Pittsburgh
Ohiopyle! this made me so happy on a rainy Sunday night here in Wisconsin. about twelve hours away from home but think about it every day. Farmington fo life. haha. Great picture. Many memories h...
Ohiopyle is awesome. I'm about 50 minutes away and I can't wait to take my kids there this summer.
I love places like this because they lead to fish
I was about to say I would love to take my orvis here! :) Isnt fly fishing the best?
Worth it.. if it's not going to rain that weekend. Last years star party was a bust and the drive is no joke..
southwest PA in the woods of a small town, my small town Dunbar.
The rock climbing there is the best around I know of. Great find!
I was just fly fishing there a few weeks ago! Beautiful place
where in Pa are you moving to? Native Pa resident, lover of angling. I can point you to fishing spots in every corner of this state and in between, just name your species...
Yes. Trout fishing
The tug is the drug, my friend. At least for catch and release. Not sure if OP was or not, though.
Why is it called that?
I'm so sad that this is so far from me. The wrong (read: West) side of PA.
Awesome place, my grandmother lives in Normalville, maybe 20 minutes away from here (:
If you like star gazing, it will probably be worth a trip to Cherry Springs State Park . It was the second International Dark Sky Park Also the Allegheny National Forest has plenty of cool sp...
I want to like fishing for these reasons.. but don't you think I could just go to those places, and I don't know.. take a shot or make a cup of tea, and skip the standing/sitting around for hours...
What can you really catch in a place like that though? Just trout for the most part?
Pa is pretty
I have visited just about every National Park in the country, live on top of a mountain in Alaska, and, still ... this is my favorite place.
Nice one - We went camping and whitewater rafting at Ohiopyle years ago; had a great time
Yeah, I used to drive over that falls, after hiking my feet were so swollen, I just parked, opened the driver side door and hung my feet into the cold water spilling over the road and down the fa...
Arnold City. Projects are literally a stones throw from Cooks Farm in the Belle Vernon area.
I have been meaning to make my way back up there. Countless visits as a kid, water slide rapids, large wild animals, oh the nostalgia.
the rock slides have to be the best part of ohiopyle. it's been so long since i've been there. i miss that place....
The bike trail is super nice there too. Years ago I took a trip with some of my friends from there down to the Maryland border and back, about 100 miles round trip. I hurt like a bitch after and ...
Well, I took this on my phone so I didn't have the option...but I agree. I don't like the long exposures.
Thank you for not doing a long exposure to make the waterfall look smooth.
Oh good ole' Fayette-nam. Sometimes I wish the entire county would just disappear. Only place I know that has straight up ghettos next to the most country areas on the planet.
I know that spot well. Fantastic fishing and some fun climbing just inside the treeline. Meadow run is as close to Eden as I can imagine. If you are ever back in the area (and can get permiss...
Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater is right around the corner, what a fantastic house to visit.
PA represent!
Nice. I love it up there. I've been to flat rock but never continued to the falls. *until today
Walking serves the same purpose
Haha yeah but at least we have spots like this to balance it out!
I was born in the mountains (Chalk Hill to be exact) and have always lived fairly close, so I've gone there all my life. Never been fishing there, though. Not yet, anyways. I want to. I think the...
AKA Fayette-nam
Yes! I second this. I might be a bit biased, though, as I go to Slippery Rock and the Mills is the best/closest place for hiking/bouldering/everything
Mcconells mills is a sight that everyone should see as well.
Ricketts Glen is a must-see. It's in Central PA, a three hour drive from the furthest corners of the state.
The town is actually Ohiopyle, PA. Its southwestern part of the state...Fayette county, not too far from the Maryland border.
As a person who loves to fish/the outdoors and is moving to PA in a month, where is this!?!?
I just went to Ohiopyle earlier this year! One of the funnest trips I've been on - there's so much you can do there. Also, I'm almost certain I've been to that exact spot. The area hadn't gotten ...
Geocaching takes me to cool places like this as well.
Your dad sounds like he knows what he's talking about
My dad always says "Fishing is great, because fish don't hang out in shitty places"
Nice never have been up there before sadly. I actually saw my friend pull out a brookie 10 feet from where people were swimming so it is possible.
This is up above the rock slides
Ohio pyle is awesome. If you stay away from the rock slides you can find some great fishing spots.
