So far, we have proven that no, we can't do it better than Nintendo.
I once do played portal with the creator's commentary on and they paid very close attention to this. The first few rooms were set up very specifically so that it would slowly help you learn the g...
It really made me appreciate the fast load time after death in the actual super meat boy. Dying over and over in Mario Maker is no where near as seamless, so it drives the frustration level up.
Beating your own level for uploading isn't counted to the clear rate.
You have to be able to beat it to upload. I'd like to download it and take a look
And hitting the squares that flip you to the other side of the fence. That blew my mind when I discovered that back in the day.
There is a super meat boy level and it's hard.
It might be a lot of work to rebuilt the mechanics of Yoshi's island in an easily editable way, but there are a bunch of great Yoshi's Island rom hacks so it would be cool to see even more of tho...
It was kind of interesting to think about while I was watching some MM levels. While I can appreciate the precision platforming and clever mechanics use, it just seems very... unenjoyable. I fe...
I haven't experienced that. I think is was genius for Nintendo to force players to beat their own levels. There are certainly some maps with 100s of enemies but I wouldn't say 90%.
I 100% disagree with that. Controls on DK tropical freeze are crisp and fast. What a lot of people don't get is that the game is heavily timing/rhyme based.
Now they just need to release Mario Maker 3D, and include the ability to create everything from Super Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy/Galaxy 2, and 3D Land/World. Then my life would be complete.
I like to think this was Satoru Iwata's last gift. He knew he wouldn't be around to make more Mario games, so he wanted to make it so others could.
Yup. Pretty much the only other thing you could want is a custom enemy maker, but that's a little bit more difficult because you need to code it directly in ASM
I've seen a few people mention wanting enemies and item blocks from other Mario games... Out of curiosity is there any chance it's on the disc and not unlocked yet? Sort of like Splatoon's "DLC...
Oh... You know, I totally didn't even notice that the list was numbered.
Yeah, I died knowing damn well that in Super Mario World I could spin jump on top of buzzsaws. Nope.
This game may make me buy a Wii U, I mean... It's like the ultimate Mario game
looks interesting! thanks
i now realize just how few of mario's mechanics i actually know
For a little bit more on the complete depth of the (supposedly) simple Level 1-1 of Super Mario Bro 1, take a look at this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZH2wGpEZVgE

I think it's Occulae. Or Occulusia?
I'm gonna punch him! Hiyaa! Oh that didn't work...
No it's mostly because DK in this game feels heavier and a little slower. The controls are tight and responsive, you just gotta get used to the physics.
whoooosh props for effort tho
DKC was insanely hard to me. DKCTF is very hard, but everything seems perfectly doable, and when I fail I generally felt like it was my mistake. The exception to this was the fucking awful squid ...
Nintendo's mastered the difficulty curve pretty well, I think, in recent history. Super Mario 3D Land's difficulty definitely curves way up in the second half, Super Mario 3D World's extra worlds...
In Mario World you can actually spin jump on more enemies than you can in Mario Maker.
The title screen for the game is actual playable levels. When you go into Course Maker from the title screen, you can work with these levels. A lot of people start from those templates and don'...

No. It has a "here are some random, unrelated posts from over a year ago" function.
That would be perfect. It was such a great game (definitely my favorite mario game) and would be really cool to make levels for. But they would need to add mechanics not just textures. E.g. eggs,...

How can you forget abut the pachinko machine from mario sunshine? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZnEdAC9IHI
I get that there is a big Kaizo Mario community, but it fucking sucks to play, imo. If I want to yell at my tv all afternoon, I'll play Castlevania 3.

Man... remember when games made you solve puzzles by teaching you slowly through mechanics.
did you ever read Only You Can Save Mankind by Terry Pratchett? It is about this idea
Quick, everyone get on the SS Friend...ship!
Especially after the criticism that some of the NSMB games got (especially NSMB2).

So basically Reddit and its content?
Reddit has a search function?
But seriously, it's just reddit being dumb. Look at the comment source and you'll see that he wrote the numbers from 1-5.
I mean people have been making Mario clones/custom maps for well over a decade for stuff like super mario bros and world. This is a great move by Nintendo to just put the creative power in people...
Considering that 90% of the levels are 100 enemies on screen at once and/or automated, I would be more than happy to let Nintendo make the levels again
One would argue that Baby Bowser is part of the level design, but it was pretty funny to watch. The Completionist talks about this syndrome all the time, where once he dies on the same thing a ...
I know right. First thing I did. Think I'm getting the trick of flying too.
the funniest part is that the level itself wasn't the cause of most his deaths, it was the bowser.
more levels yes. but of course there is not more deaths in mario maker than there has been in the last 30 years in all other mario games combined...
I recently played through Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze... From what I remember, DKC was no where near as difficult.
Now go play Super Mario World again.
OCULUS RIFT SUPPORT FOR FIVE SIMULTANEOUS OCULUSES!
Lol. With formatting like that, he is fit to be a manager!
How Can The Ground Be Real If Mario Is Not Real?
should have been mario flipping the bird, but with the ? box covering it up.
Actually....does the Goomba spawn on level load? If not, then going left will just have Mario walking left....until the end of time.
Yeah but that doesn't mean people would play much anyway. No matter how hard it is if the number of plays is a factor of millions or billions higher, they'll never get even close.
3 different songs with 3 different music players playing at the same time.

That Super Meat Boy level is insanely good! Really difficult, but so satisfying when you finally beat it.
It's schwifty time today.
I usually don't have a problem with the jump but I always get fucked by the hammer bros
I've never heard Arin as pissed off as he was during Game Grumps Mario Maker 5 yesterday. Not even during a Sonic playthrough.
On a conveyor belt, with a pipe that spawns springs above you
Wait no longer! These levels are my speciality. 6E85-0000-0023-9E51 There's Part 1. The other 3 parts can be found either on my profile or as comments at the ends of the levels themselves.
How did you arrive at that spelling?
Have you seen some of the posts on here from that? They make Nintendo Hard look easy.

aaaand we've got stockholm syndrome.
If Nintendo is a child predator, well, consider me groomed and molested.

I hate world 8, it's bullshit.
That was the whole point of the first goomba! It made you learn to jump before continuation.
Okay but that's you. Most people never got to world 8. Lots of non-gamers have played Super Mario Bros, and they won't be finding warpzones or getting anywhere near world 8.
Gotcha watch out for that first goomba, it's a doozy.

why does your list have bullets and also numbers. and also every number is 1
Bowsers? I'm pretty sure it's Koopas all the way down.
Can you please elaborate on point 1?
Originally, there was only one item in the list. So it was number 1 out of 1. 1/1=1. Then they added a second. That was number 2 out of 2. 2/2=1. Then a third. 3/3=1. You get the picture.

Shit I fired up Super Mario All Stars for SNES for the first time in years and died on the first goomba 3 times getting used to the controls again.
every level uploaded has been played and beaten at least once by the creator.
The amount of deaths has little to do with the amount of levels. The only things that will make Mario Maker catch up in that regard is the sheer difficulty of some of these levels made and possib...
There are quite a few Metroidvania levels already

Is there any specific reason those weren't included?
Technically, if you hold Left + B, the goomba will always get you. It'll just take a little longer.
The original Super Mario Bros. alone shifted more than 40 million units, and given that that game had 32 levels, then the total unique level experiences from that game would be 1.28 billion, whic...

This game reminds me of Kramer's make your own pie pizzeria. Why pay money just to do all the work?
Get off the floor and DANCE!
I'm waiting for someone to build a Metroid style puzzle level. Also, for someone to make a working adding machine or logic switch using shells or some crap as the bits.
I hope at some point Mario Maker gets DLC for SMB 2 and Yoshi's Island
He is in australia.

Jared likes to eat fresh.
I hate that a lot of the difficult levels are just tons of enemies placed everywhere rather than being actually hard.
That's the dream, to sit back and collect money as countless masses of people make games for you. That, or wifi in your car, I can never remember which.
Can I put M. Bison in the game too?
I'd have to give award to this guy myself. Always there to ruin my day.

No chargin chucks?! No sale.
Most of the levels that would be considered "good" are definitely closer to Kaizo than SMB.

To anyone who has this: are the levels out there reminiscent of old super mario levels with a new twist, or are most of them in the obnoxious masocore vein?
This game mostly shows how crap the average person is at designing 2D platformer levels. There some really great levels out there, but they're in a sea of garbage floating on 3 Bowsers stacked ...

Yeah, but of all SMB players, less than 0.0001% ever make it to world 8.
What about the long jump in world 8. While goomba #1 kills you once, that jump will kill you 5+
It's like the battleblock theatre trailer. "If you don't like our stuff, shut up and do better. '
