Vol. 1 - Harry St Clare Wheeler's WW1 photo album from US Naval Air service in France

Young HS Wheeler enlisted in the US Navy Jul 1917 & served in Naval Air Service. During WWI he was in France, most time spent at the Brest Naval Air Station. USN online material states,"The United States naval air station, Brest, was located in the western extremity of the French navy yard & consisted of both a seaplane base & a kite balloon station." At war's end, Brest facility was turned over to France & he served down the French coast, (possibly St Nazaire?). This is the first of 3 volumes of over 100 photos in his photo album. Most photos were not identified & many were faded & degraded. Some photos had cryptic notes on front or back that are given in quotation marks in captions. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION & CAPTIONS HAVE BEEN ADDED IN FEB. 2015 THANKS TO MEMBERS OF THESE BREST, FRANCE AREA HISTORICAL GROUPS: "Ile Longue" (AMD) http://www.ilelongue14-18.eu/?lang=en#onglet AND "Mémoire de Saint-Pierre" (MSP) http://echodesaintpierre.voila.net/index.html See: www.WheelerFolk.org
