On November 21st, 1941 the Brooklyn Navy Yard began publishingTheNavy
YardShipworker, a weekly newspaper with the lofty goal of inspiring a
sense of belonging and community among the Yard’s workers and their
families. Continuing until 1966, theShipworkercovered the high and low
of daily life at the Yard. In her pages one could find articles as
simple as the impact of a new lunch counter on morale, to as dramatic
as the fatal USSConstellationfire that killed 49.
