Nightlife In big cities like Paris, Lyon and Marseille are nightclubs
that stay open late. Sometimes in the ticket price included a drink.
Many bars and cafes are open until late and people tend to visit
before going to a club or disco. The country has about 130 casinos.
Shopping The most interesting shopping is the work of lace, cut glass,
cheeses, wines, spirits and liqueurs. The best place to buy is Arques
glassware, which is situated between St Omer and Calais. The city of
Lille, which is the main town of French Flanders, is famous for its
production of lace. Almost all towns have fruit and vegetable markets
on Saturday. The country has many supermarkets and hypermarkets. The
latter are located on the outskirts of cities and have large parking
lots. Business Hours: Department stores are open from 09.00 to 18.30
Monday to Saturday. Normal shops often close for lunch between 12.00
and 14.30. Food shops are open from 07.00 to 18.30/19.30. The bakeries
are usually open on Sundays. Many shops tend to close for rest of the
staff for a half day or all day on Monday. The supermarkets are open
until 21.00 or 22.00.
